Project Healing Waters
In the summer of 2012 we started a Project Healing Waters Fly-fishing (PHW) program at the Martinsburg Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) in Martinsburg, West Virginia.
Currently we run fly-casting and fly-tying classes in the VAMC gym (“Heroes Center”) with the assistance of the gym’s Recreation Aide Darren “Chewie” Yowell.
Classes are conducted once a month for specific VAMC programs like Substance Abuse and PTSD, plus fly-tying classes on a Wednesday evening during the gym’s 6-8 pm open activities period.
Class times vary depending on the gym schedules of the specific VA in-patient programs. So please check our Chapter Calender for class dates and times.
Volunteers are needed for teaching fly-casting and fly-tying skills. Volunteers may also accompany wounded warriors and disabled veterans on local and national fly-fishing outings within both the Virginia and West Virginia regional events and national PHW events.
